There is some confusion as the USB device has little if any documentation. Since it is sold by Radio Shack we have little say as to the instructions that come with it. But we do our best.
The USB driver set up as a COMM port. So once you install the driver our program will work just fine (using a comm port)
Look at these FAQs and it explains better

Normally the comm port set up is the highest one on the "list" in our selection menu.

I just purchased and downloaded scan-lite-plus. On the website, it was implied that I could use the Radio Shack USB programming cable (you list it as cable #6 on the cable list). Once I installed the program, there is no provision for USB ports…. Only COMM ports. Will USB be supported soon?? If not, then I cannot use the application. I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop, and it does not have a <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />comm. Port….. only USB ports.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Please advise!!
