HI
The "A" model uses a switch to turn on or off the "remote access". In "ON" position, the only functions that are user controllable will be the Volume and Squelch. If you cannot connect with the radio, I would look at your computer's system in the "Control Panel", and find out what comm ports you have, and then go through them one at a time (in Scancat's Comm port setup). Then - Go to the scanning module and see if it will "work".... Eventually you will find the right one.
ALSO look at our HINTS and TIPS about changing the Baud Rate
As the radio "could be" on 9600 instead of the factory default of 4800 baud.
This Main "Hint" link describes other issues that relate to "commport" problems. Including using a mini tester to visually see if comm ports are working.
